Oops! This link appears broken

I installed dolphin on a local machine (vmware virtual machine,ubuntu server edition).

Installation worked out fairly easy.

My problem is that after I create a profile when I try to access the profile, my browser returns the error message “Oops! This link appears broken”.

I’ll put the site online (using dynamic dns) at http://epicurean.doesntexist.com/

So if anybody would give it a look to help solve the issue I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

that link has timed out.. anyway check if you have mod_rewrite on your server and the original dolphin .htaccess on the root of this installation..

The command a2mod rewrite returned:

Module rewrite already enabled

As for the .htaccess file it contains the following:

php_flag register_globals Off

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

RewriteRule .+ - [L]

RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 [QSA,L]

</IfModule>

Website is probably offline, I have a problem with my ddns, but isn’t working on the testing server anyway!

Backup your .htaccess and replace the text with this, see if it works.. (this is from my installation)

Somehow I don’t seem to have luck with dolphins.

After my efforts to deploy dolphin on a local machine at home didn’t succeed. I installed dolphin on a Centos 5.2 public accesible vps server.

Everything seems to work fine especially after reviewing the phpinfo file. but nothing appears on the browser.

Also a photo gallery php script which I installed just for testing purposes performed as expected.

But dolphin still fiercely refuses to swim in the stormy sea of the www.

As for me that dolphin turned out to be rather a mere sardine.

Nevertheless

Thanks anyway

Costa,

one of the most important things that you must understand, is that not every public available server is configured to run the dolphin script. and this is notated on the WIKI, which outlines system requirements. Granted, it states that you need a dedicated server or a vps at minimum, that has been determined not to be true in all cases. shared hosting environments properly configured can run dolphin on a shared environment.

so for you to have had problems with an install on a public server after your failure with your home machine, i would like to look into what might have been the problem.
