timezone...again

Hi,

Please start to integrate timezone from 7.0.1

Try to think about someone want to build an event based website. Upcoming events have a "In xxx days" or "In xx hours".

Now if the server (hosting) is in another timezone and we can't change timezone, we have a big big problem, because time calculation show wrong time.

Please integrate it in 7.0.1! We need it!

what about start an donation and pay one of boonex programmers to make this fix now instead of neverending story and waiting months for 7.1. I think If there will be at least 20 people who will donate some money than I bet somebody of boonex devs take this job :-) ... kinda funny but Im talking seriously... what u think ? This one is oneof most crucial drawbacks of dolphin now because I cant go live without proper time settings... I think if we put together like 200 USd hopefully somebody od boonex devs take a job.,..

I believe it's rightfully scheduled for Dolphin 7.1, as according to a developer, it will require time and rewriting of parts of the software to work correctly.

However, if you're willing to spend money on such a feature, I'd recommend posting a job offer. A developer might just pick it up.

@Magnus: Well who knows if this will be done in 7.1 because its been postponed already as I know. Anyway its sure 7.1 while it fix lot of defects will breang heaps of new features. Those new features brings new heaps of errors which will be fixing for months. I will better see timezone as a crucial thing will be included in 7.0.3 or 7.0.4 (if there will be 7.0.4) so there will be stable version people can stick with and USE it and than we can wait in peace for 7.1 stable version whatever time it takes...but now without timezone fix many people cant even install d7 and go live because of timezone...

I don't believe it was ever pushed back (but other tickets have been). It's a known fact that new features bring new bugs, while even a fix for a bug may cause something else to misbehave. I do wonder whether this software is actually tested before release (anyone up for a live camera feed of the office?).

I don't view the lack of timezone support on the user-end as a real show-stopper for people. I know of plenty successful web sites without this feature, and know first hand that as a matter of fact, people actually adapt to the web site's time.

I'll be honest: I've never had a serious issue with this software, all except for a few annoyances that require some light modification. Perhaps it's because there are some features I don't use (like dating), or perhaps it's because I make sure my web server is fully compatible, and I try to take good care of my installations.

@Magnus: well it prolly depends on needs. My point of view is thet every good community web need to have event component. Dolphin have event component and also there are some connercial event  mods which are good. The problem is how can somebody setup an event if nobody will clearly know exact date and time of event ?  If timezone will be not fixed asap having any event mod on dolphin is useless ( unless u use server in your own country or timezone) because it creates only chaoss amongst userbase. There are also other aspect like messenger - message send/receive times but in this I can agree this cause is not too disturbing - its not good not to know when I received message - but I can tolerate this for a while, but not having proper timezone in events is a MUST for every better social site.

If you will be using dolphin in full - dating etc... you will find also bugs in search are very serious as its impossible to create properly working state/region field thus it lower dolphin dating capability to minimum. As Im registered on all well-known social sites - All people I know - at least here in europe - search by state/region to find somebody in their nearest surrounding. If there is clearly problem and I cant setup dolphin search properly to search by state or region its a crucial issue regarding dating capability of dolphin. Honestly I dont know of any social site without capability to search by state or region. In theoretical level dolphin can manage this. In real it dont work properly...

i have used a mod that was offered for free on the market --> timezone by expertX. has nobody else used this mod to fix the timezone difference in dolphin?

this mod seemed to work great for a few clients. also, i think there is a post here by sammie, of how to if you have a dedicated server, tweak the database so the time will adjust based on the IP that is calling in.
