The Evo template is designed to be more mobile friendly.  You can use it as it, or you can clone it (to prevent overwrites during an upgrade) and make changes to the Evo template to better suit your needs.

Over the many years I ran Dolphin on my site and have tried many templates both free and paid. There are quite a few nice responsive templates on the Market.  Some of my favorites are linked below and you can either try them on the developers sites (linked on market) or on my live site.  Theme changer is in the footer or follow links below.

I have also found that for site administration on a mobile device that if you turn the device horizontal the admin icon will appear in the footer area but not if held vertically.  That is my experience.

Good luck with your project.

Yes indeed. When using a mobile phone as a phone, it's meant to be held vertically. When using it as a camera or web viewer, it's no longer a mobile phone and it should be held horizontally. You don't see many vertical TV or computer screens, so I can't for the life of me work out why people make movies or surf the web that way.

Sad to see people using a phone to shoot video; vertically.
