Embedding YouTube videos in blogs, events. and groups, etc., is a start, but the list of supported sites needs to be expanded. The method I discussed in this thread (http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/topic/TIP-HTMLpurifer-SafeObject-and-SafeEmbed.htm) is a temporary solution, but does not give site owners enough control over the video content that may be embedded on their site.
The ideal way to allow embedded content, is to create additional white list filters for HTML purifier, in addition to /plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/Filter/YouTube.php. Control over which filters to allow, in admin, would be a really nice enhancement. I have spent a lot of time searching for additional filters, and was able to find HTMLpurifier filters for the following sites:
GoogleVideo (Not sure how useful this one is) LiveLeak (liveleak.com) LocalMovie (Example filter for embedding videos hosted don your own site) MetaCafe Vimeo SlideShare (great for business sites.... http://www.slideshare.net/) TeacherTube Twitter SciVee (http://www.scivee.tv/) Skype (allows embedding of a skype button http://www.skype.com/share/buttons/) WeGame
The reason I posted this enhancement request here, instead of directly in trac, is so that everybody can suggest what video sites to permit. Any of the above sites is easy because I already have the filter code. In addition to the above, I would like to see:
Truveo (This one will cover a lot of ground) Megavideo Hulu ESPN
Suggestions for additional sites please....
Additional sites would be nice to have on the video uploader, but since youtube is hardcoded into the D7 script, Boonex has made it difficult to add additional sites without rewriting the code every time. For every place where you embed a video using TinyMCE (With the exception of Forums), it's a fairly simple matter to add an additional whit list filter to HTMLpurifier.

Hulu, Vimeo, and Google Videos are really the next big 3, totally agree with you on all of this. newbreed |
I'd like to see this for other sites that use Dolphin too, as well as some support for those of us that have adult networks. Embedding support for Xtube and other sites so that we don't have to host the videos. |
I have a client that would pay for xtube support.

I would like to add Streetfire.net to the list.
Give me something to believe in... |
RE:

That's just asking for trouble. Some of those sleazy porn sites execute some equally sleazy scripts within their embed code. I'm not sure it can even be done without disabling htmlpurifier entirely.

You know what they say. All the latest and greatest improvements to web design over the years and the internet itself came from porn sites. Why should video be any different? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
can you share these HTML purifiers files you had found houstonlively |

RE:

I'd be glad to provide them to Boonex for inclusion in D7.... all they have to do is ask. If I provided them here, I'd also have to write up instructions on how to recompile the HTMLPurifier configuration schema which requires command line access on your server..... not something I'm about to do. To do this right, Boonex needs to add filters for all the popular video sites to the configuration schema, then provide an admin section where you can select which sites you want to allow embedding from. This really needs to come from Boonex, because it requires modification of the source files.
Your best bet is to just use safe object and safe embed, because I first asked for this two years ago when I recommended they use HTML purifier for post filtering.

HL,
has been a leader in this topic since I have been here. It is beyond noncomprehendable why this can't be done and in my mind works against the very strength the site gives you. In other words post your video's make your point just not with the video's you posted on your own site........Hmmm. IF I MAY request please allow the admin to have blanket privileges to do what "EVER" he wants to do and apply the other rules to all others. Is there not a way to do that? Please tell me why it can't be done and what is the purpose to dilute the very strength the site gives you? It is like having a the perfect car in your garage but not one other person can see it. HL has spent if I may guess probably 1000 hours trying to work around what this is. I just don't understand the amazing programming you guys have done in so many areas but yet this can't be done with a turn on or turn off switch in the admin panel....very frustrating for all that actually try to use it to it's highest and best use........IMHO..........

What about live stream sites like UStrean? Can they be embedded in a D7 html block? Someday, Someway. |

You can embed Ustream anywhere you like in any block

Thanks James. When you say anywhere in any block, do you mean like wherever there is a TinyMCE with a html editor?
This is very useful for me. Will try it out tonight.
