Hi
I am having a similar issue i think. I have installed the Orca module and all looks okay but when i hit the Forum Index tab on the site i get the following error
If you are the webmaster of this site please log in to Cpanel and check the Error Logs. You will find the exact reason for this error there.
Common reasons for this error are:
- Incorrect file/directory permissions: Above 755. In order files to be processed by the webserver, their permissions have to be equal or below 755. You can update file permissions with a FTP client or through cPanel's File Manager.
- Incorrect Apache directives inside .htaccess file. Make sure you have not specified unsupported directives inside the local .htaccess file. Such include PHP settings and Apache module settings.
Also when in the forum if i click on the links or catagory headings like General etc i get this error
XML read failed:500 There was a problem retrieving the XML data: http://nextdaystay.co.uk/forum/?action=forum_index&cat=General&trans=1
if some one can help i would be very greatful as this is stopping my site going live and i cant seem to find a solution

Hi all
I was wondering if there was anyone that could help on this subject
|
I believe your answers are actually in your post. ManOfTeal.COM a Proud UNA site, six years running strong! |
Your server is apparently running suPHP, which requires directory permissions set at 755 or lower. Trying to set a directory permission to 777 on a server running suphp, will cause the 500 error. Your first step is to make sure you have no directory permissions set to 777. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
H Houstonlively
I have checked all the folders in dolphin and non are set to 777,
Any idea on the XML error. Sorry if this is simple but im new to this and just started out learning

Incorrect Apache directives inside .htaccess file. Make sure you have not specified unsupported directives inside the local .htaccess file. Such include PHP settings and Apache module settings.
you also need to check and see if you have XML and XSLT enabled and available. I see this is hosted on siteground via hostandwin.com. since your hosting company states they support dolphin, i would suggest submitting a support ticket and asking them why the 500 error? i would presume you are in conflict with some of their configuration settings. both Orca and Dolphin have htaccess files, and just as the message states, please read the error logs, if the error logs are non-discernable by you, please contact your hosting company. this is not a problem with dolphin, this is a hosting service conflict most likely.

Hi DosDawg
Thanks for the response
Thats exactly what i havre been trying to do but site ground who advertise Dolphin all over there pages say its down to me to find the answers. They only install the basic script and any of the modules they dont support.
They suck and i only moved to them a week ago for the reason of dolphin support and that they supposedly have dolphin developers working for them.
I will try again and cheers for the suggestion

did you look at your error logs on cpanel?
also, can you look at your phpinfo() and see if XML and XSLT are enabled?
also check to make sure mod_rewrite is installed and enabled:
the .htaccess for Orca does not present anything i would expect to raise a problem, other than the first line;
AddType application/xml .xsl
take that line out and see if your site loads. this could be what is breaking it, they may have the configuration such that you are not allowed to add the mimetype on htaccess.

Hi
As mentionjed im not that educated on this stuff as im a newbie, but my hosting company is not prepared to help.
The logs are this
[Tue Jan 25 17:05:42 2011] [error] [client 86.17.151.24] Premature end of script headers: /home/nextday6/public_html/modules/boonex/forum/index.php [Tue Jan 25 16:46:58 2011] [error] [client 90.221.150.20] File does not exist: /home/nextday6/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/images/subheader_bg.jpg [Tue Jan 25 16:36:37 2011] [error] [client 69.84.107.178] File does not exist: /home/nextday6/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/images/subheader_bg.jpg [Tue Jan 25 16:21:44 2011] [error] [client 90.221.150.20] File does not exist: /home/nextday6/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/images/subheader_bg.jpg [Tue Jan 25 16:19:27 2011] [error] [client 90.221.150.20] File does not exist: /home/nextday6/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/images/subheader_bg.jpg [Tue Jan 25 16:17:02 2011] [error] [client 90.221.150.20] File does not exist: /home/nextday6/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/images/subheader_bg.jpg

Okay so now i am arguing with my hosting company who state that dolphin script is written incorrect, can any on advise otherwise ive spent a lot of time and money and am having to inform a customer that im shit at this thing and they cannot have what i promised a forum
hank you for the update.
I would like to explain that 500 error messages could be invoked by several reasons:
-- The script requires more than the usual time to be processed and is being killed by our system. In order to ensure the stable performance of all other hosted accounts we have set the TimeOut for our webserver to 10 secs. The PHP TimeOut is 45 seconds. I have checked the issue again and I can confirm that the script is not killed by our system.
-- There is an error within the programming code of the script in question. In this case it should be revised by a professional web developer who will be able to assist you further. Since we cannot find any server issues then Boonex should review their script code. After all they have created the software.
If I create certain product I will be responsible for its disadvantages and bugs. This is the same case - Bonex created a product which you want to use. The product works on our server but a certain feature cannot be used. This means that this feature is not programmed properly and it must be checked. Since we did not write the code we cannot assist you further.
We did everything we can trace down the source of the issue but to no avail. The server error log files do not show any server problems. To resolve the issue we will be glad to collaborate with Boonex. However you need to contact them and to provide the strace results so they can review them. If they find any errors we will be glad to investigate the problem further.
Looking forward to your reply!

Thats most likley the problem. Custom template named skin004 not compatable with the version of dolphin your running. Switch back to the UNI default template and contact template vendor for a update.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi
Even without the template and only the UNI in place i get the same problems.same error codes on the forum, i will delete the skin and if you could look at the forum on my website i would appreciate any feedback, click on forum index and you will see a 550 error message and if you click on the general in the forum you will see an xml error. I will delte now and see if you can help
much appreciated

Hi Deano
if you can look at my site, www.nextdaystay.co.uk and click on forums, if you click forum index you get a 500 error but if you click on general and then try an click back using the navigation i get an xml error, i dont know if you could advise but id be grateful if you could help. im new to this but finding it dissapointing as this is what my customer wants most is the forum
|
I does appear to be a permissions issue.
Check all the folders in modules/boonex/forum/layout and see if they are set to 755.
If necessary you may need to take more drastic steps which involve uninstalling the forum module, then fully deleting module/boonex/forum from the server and reuploading from your origional archive and then reinstalling the module.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi
I have checked the permissions and all set to 755 for the folders, just wondered what the files within the folders should be?
I have now uninstalled the module, uploaded all the files again from the dolphin download, checked the permissions again and bang still the same errors
|
You said you did this.
1) Uninstalled module
2) Uploaded files again.
But you missed a step. Make sure you did it this way. If not, do it again.
1) Uninstall module.
2) Delete folder modules/boonex/forum - Delete the entire forum folder. This step is important as it will ensure any existing permission settings will get removed as well and not preserved.
3) Reupload modules/boonex/forum from the origional archive that matches your current dolphin version. Again. Important that the proper forum version is uploaded. So if you did any boonex upgrades you will need to obtain the full install version of dolphin that matches your current dolphin version and upload using that. Do not use a upgrade archive or a older full version.
4) Reinstall module.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Oh, and you may also want to reupload the .htaccess file. The one thats in the root of your dolphin site with a fresh copy.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi
Yes i have done all of that as described and as you have just mentioned uploaded a new htaccess file and still the same error on the forums
|
I am fresh out of ideas. That last method should have fixed any problems with the forums.
My only conclusions is lack of server support for XML and XSLT as DosDawg mentioned. I believe your host does not meet the requirements of dolphin. But of course the host is going to blame the dolphin script even tho it runs flawlessly on a proper server that meets dolphins requirements.
Have you tried a reinstall from scratch?
Or i could try reinstalling it for you. I think you mentioned your host did it for you before.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi Deano
That would help me massively if you could, just one question, would i loose all the data thats been put in by members at the moment, the rest of the site works great and is functioning properly its just the forum that wont work and thats what i need
|
If i do a reinstall, then yes. Loss of everything. I just don't have the time to try a preserve anything.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Also, is this hosting account you on a shared, VPS or dedicated hosting account?
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi
Its on a shared server with siteground
okay what info do you need from me to be able to help me out
|
I could also verify by doing a seperate install into a sub directory to see if a reinstall will actually work.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Its okay a clean install will be fine if you can help |
cpanal and ftp access. You can PM. Don't post that info in the forum.
https://www.deanbassett.com |
Hi do you want me to send details over pm here or else where |
Hi do you want me to send details over pm here or else where
Here is fine.

Hi Deano
Ill send over PM for you, much appreciated if you can help
|
Hi Deano
Sent as requested

Well. I tried. A fresh install to a subdirectory and still problems with forum. I have determined it to be hosting is just not good enough to run dolphin.
The memory limits and upload sizes on host are way to low to be usable with dolphin anyway and nothing i tried will change those settings. php.ini files, htaccess files, nothing i do over rides the settings the host has set and no place in cpanal to make those adjustments either.
