few presale or pre-download questions

Here some urgent questions:
1. is the only difference between free and payed boonex products in adds in free version or are there also some other limitations in free versions like max. number of users, max. bandwith, max. disk-space usage or any other limitations regarding for example design and customization posssibilities ?

2. with the Ray community widget, I saw, live video chat is possible.
Can I with combination with Dolphin enable my site users to create own, clean URL streaming channel, to stream live web-cam videos one-to-many, for example like on www.justin.tv ?

3. does Dolphin and Ray exists in croatian language version ?
If not, can I easy translate it to, as novice, I am not programmer, I am novice ?

4. I have read that boonex offers within the free Ray widget, free server hosting without limitation, is this true ? Is this also for live streaming suitable, because I want to run a site like justin.tv ? If not, what are the limitations ?

5. How to use a free version of your products, is it ready and easy to install on server, is this ready to use web-site ? You say you offer free hosting and server, how it works ? I have buyed a domain-name, how I install it on your hosting ?
6. Can I build totaly independent own website with boonex products, I mean with my own users, or will it be part of your community where every user have access ?

Thanks to all for help in advance!

There are no other limitations. The ad free license is just that. To get rid of the ads.

The live feed in the chat rooms is for the web cam chat. I don't believe ray was designed for streaming in the way you want to do it. I could be wrong. Perhaps someone else has a better answer but i don't think it is possible with ray.

3. does Dolphin and Ray exists in croatian language version ?

This i cannot answer. But Dolphin does support other languages so i am sure things can be translated.

They used to offer access to a free ray media server. But that has not worked for quite some time.

I do not believe BOONEX has ever offered free hosting other than access to the media server for RAY. You will need to obtain hosting. See this link for a list of dolphin compatiable hosting companies. http://www.boonex.com/hosting/. I recommend terabyte-hosting.com. They are the ones i use.

6. Can I build totaly independent own website with boonex products, I mean with my own users, or will it be part of your community where every user have access ?

Yes you can.

You can also see what this product looks like out of the box at there community site here. http://www.boonex.us/

You might also want to check out a preview of the new version that should be out in a few months. A preview of that is here. http://www.demozzz.com/dolphin7a/

Hallo, thank you for your fast response!

Most what I am interessted for is to enable live video streaming like on justin.tv.

You say it is probably not possible, it is more suitable for web-cam-video chat.

But, theoretically, I would need just to enable clean URL streaming channels for user profiles, like:

www.mysite.com/user1  - that would be a streaming channel, and that all users have there the web-cam-chat-video module like Ray, and to stream videos ?

Because I saw Ray widget enables unlimited simultan chatters, so what do you think, how this might be possible, and why it might be not possible.

Thank you in advance.

A RAY expert would need to answer this question.

In the chat room the broadcaster and viewer are part of the chat module. To do what you want i believe the broadcaster and viewer would need to be seperate modules that can dropped in anywhere on the site.

I believe the current video player might be able to be modified to access a live stream, but i don't believe there is a broadcaster module built in that can broadcast a live stream. This is the reason why i don't think it can be done with the software as it is. Perhaps a broadcaster can be written by someone.

Anyhow, a RAY expert will need to answer this one as i am not sure of rays limitations.

Hallo Deano, hm..I see...but is there any third party module that offers such separate moduls for broadcasting and viewers, and that can be integrated with Dolphin and Ray ?

I of course have not tried this new widget to see if its exactly what you are looking for, but ray has released a live-cam widget that may be what you are after. i will get you the link to that, he has a free version, that requires no RMS i do believe, and then his latest release that does require RMS. you should contact rayz in regards to streaming and many-to-one and one-to-many models.

Hallo DosDawg, it seams to be simmilar, I have checked the description, but they write that only up to 3 cameras can be viewed and more important, it does not use live streaming, the cam make pictures every few seconds and stream it to website, so that the streaming picture is static and change every few seconds. But when I go to demo, it works like normal live streaming. I dont know.

question for deno:

you say the Ray free media server with preinstalled codes in not more actual ?

Does Boonex products support Red5 streaming server, can it be used ?

Have Red5 server solution some live streaming codecs preinstalled or do I have to use some separate Rich media encpoders, if yes, do you know some that are free and good ? I know On2 is good but it is very expensive.

And another question, when I takke free boonex versions and develop my community and later I want to go to payed version, is the migration to payed version with database and all users easy or is it some complicated process ?

And same question about hosting migration and web-domain-name migration ?

Quote · 13 Apr 2009

Yes, i believe the ray server is based on red5. I am guessing most red5 stuff may work. But i don't know for sure. Ray is not my area of expertize. As DosDawg mentioned, you should talk to Rayz. His profile is here. http://www.boonex.com/unity/Rayz

He would know better than most what will work and what won't.

Forgot to answer that question. Yes, the switch to the paid version is as simple as replacing the license keys.

Moving to a different server or domain is also simple. Requires some minor changes to some config files, but still quite simple.

Thanks Dosdawg, Deano... your help is great and we appreciate it. One point on the last question that needs clarifying is that Dolphin and Orca only needs to have the license changed to effect link removals and you need not worry about database or anything else. Ray, however, will require changing the software for each widget that you wish to use paid licenses for.

You will need to get the ad free download and use the Ray modules in it to replace ad based or "free" widget software. Then you may use the purchased licenses for ad removal. Follow the steps in this link and you should be fine: http://www.boonex.com/trac/ray/wiki/GenRayFAQs   Dolphin 7 will fix even this issue and make life much less difficult.

The guys here are right about the "streaming" issue, too, Darkulix. Contact Rayz for best advice on that. Thanks all!
