Yes, That's exactly what it is... a scam. We're all in it together.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

LOL Cute.. Well How Can I Have A Working Website And Be In On The Scam To Then Because I Need A Social Networking Website For My Members.. Do You Have A Website? How Is It Working? Where Do You Host It At?

LOL

Proper hosting is everything. If uploading via FTP the quality of the FTP client you use also means everything to prevent corrupted data. The auto installer sucks.

With proper hosting dolphin runs well. No doubt there are a few bugs, but for the most part works very well out of the box.

So yes, find another host specifically setup for dolphin such as terabyte-hosting.com

Use a good FTP client like wsftp. If you're using Filezilla, dump it. That one i know is not reliable.

Also Dolphin is free and free licences are available. Never purchase mods or a license to remove the boonex logos until you are satisfied with the product. Infact, installing mods on a copy of dolphin that is not running correctly can just make matters worse.

So is it a scam? The answer is no. Considering the product is free how could it be a scam. The paid licences are specifically for the removal of the boonex links. Nothing else. A paid licence is not required to use the product.

@ beanfly,

The dolphin is such a pain in the arse because it can do almost everything you want with the right programmer and mods. which means its not a simple platform as say like word press or drupal and such!

But I will tell you this, from my experience here, its a good platform and everyone here in the forums are great they will help you out as they have helped everyone else! They are not agents, they dont get paid for their help, they are just good people and they have definitely helped me when I was going to take my toys and go home!LOL

So give it a chance, maybe even take a weekend off from it, then come back like all the rest of us and keep tackling this beast!

I agree with Deano, you dont have to but a license until you are ready to launch, and I was alos one that thought that I can get it up and running in a matter of weeks! Hell it took me 5 months of working on it every day before I got it launched!

So good luck and hope you enjoy the scam! I mean team!

I belive your issue has to do with your hosting company. I've been using http://www.joombyte.com for almost a year, things are running just fine and their support is great. So lets not blame Boonex, they are not the cause of your problems. Another advice, there are some good developers you can hire to get you up and running - most of them are reasonable.. Good luck!

LOL @ HL

I found myself turning my head upside down to read your post.. UGH, the blonde is coming out of me..

@Beanfly

Dolphin a scam?? If so, we've all been had here. Dolphin is capable of running on Shared, VPS, or dedicated server hosting. Its completely up to you. HOWEVER, your hosting MUST meet the requirements posted by UE30.

Its not a scam, but it does have hidden subliminal messages in the code that will make you cluck like a chicken on every 5th Tuesday of the month.

Nothing to see here

I would never try using Dolphin on shared hosting.  Even if you get it to work, you risk having your account closed due to using too much CPU.

I don't know why people like ftp. It always seems to be an issue. I can't remember the last time I FTP'd anywhere! Most servers give you access to cpanel and cpanel has a very good file upload utility. I have never had any issues using it.

I thought Arvixe.com just did the install for you - is that not correct?  Why did you have to mess with an FTP install at all?

Quote · 29 Jun 2010

On Arvixe you can install through cpanel

Quote · 29 Jun 2010

Yeah In The cPanel At Arvixe There Is A Thing Called Softaculous.. You Can Do The One Click Install From There..
I'm Just Not Sure Why This Will Not Work Right.. But Get This.. Some Of MY Members Get Logined In They Tried Using FireFox And There Good To Go..
Oh Well.. I Was Using FileZilla To Upload My Files, Guess I Will Not Be Using That Any More..
I Wish I Could Find Someone That New What They Where Doing And Have Installed Dolphin A Lot Of Times Before And Knew How To Fix Any Bugs..
I Have 2 More Dolphin Sites I Want To Make And I Guess I Could Use The Help..

So does your site work when everyone uses firefox?

I have had to get some of my members to upgrade their Ie to get theirs to work right!

It seems that they dont want to upgrade to a better browser.

and I have had sites on shared hosting before, and did ok while I was building the site, then I upgraded before I launched it.

Most of the site seems to work for them and myself. the thing that im having a hard time with is there is only so much testing you can do alone.. then when you launch and get people to join all thes things seem to come up.. for me anyway.. and the avatars going away i dont want that to happen again.. had to start my site over from that

Have you made sure your own computers copy of java is up to date? http://java.com

Dolphin makes extensive use of JavaScript. If the version you have is too old, things that require JavaScript may not work correctly. You also have to suspect possible browser or JavaScript problems if one person is having problems with one feature in dolphin but others are not. That is a big tip-off, and should be obvious.
