14 Years Of BoonEx

Time is speeding up. BoonEx is 14. Yay!

[end of the birthday reflection talk, on to things that matter...]

Special Offer

To celebrate, we are offering a 3-day special - 30% discounts on all licenses. That's as good as it ever gets, and licenses will also cover Dolphin U (details here).

Dolphin U Public Preview

To celebrate even more, we're launching a Public Preview of Dolphin U Alpha. At this stage it's Alpha5 already, so many quirks have been ironed out, but we do have a few more things planned, so it's not a feature-final version yet, mind you. Read this post for more details

Next Up

The plan is to finish what's in works with Dolphin U and launch an upgradable, supported Beta version. That's when BoonEx.com will likely change quite a bit as well. Dolphin U will continue as a Beta for some time, so that we could test it completely and so that we could prepare Dolphin Classic update, too.

On a side note - Northern hemisphere is out of the summer slumber, and Southern is over with winter shiver. Productive mid-season is officially on! Good luck, fellow web masters, aspiring entrepreneurs, geeky developers and imaginative visionaries!

How about updating 7.1.4 before you turn 15, or before I'm too old and senile to remember what I wanted to do with this platform in the first place.

As I alluded to in the DU private preview, you really jumped the gun on introducing a platform that is nowhere close to something a person can build a real website with. I really don't want to wait another year or two to find out how it turns out.

There are numerous tickets on the 7.1.5 milestone that could really use some attention. It's been see more over a year since version 7 has seen an update. That's worth repeating. It's been over a year since version 7 has seen an update. Does that make good business sense to you? Take a break from DU, and get 7.1.5 done already. I'm trying very hard to stick with this platform, but when you all but abandon your flagship product product, you make it very, very difficult for me to do so. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling these sentiments.

For the sake of all of us, put some effort into version 7. DU can wait.... it's not yet a platform that anybody around here is going to accept anytime soon. If you ignore V7 much longer, you are going to drag your entire business into the toilet, and all of us customers with you.

I hope you take these comments seriously, and give us 7.1.5

Yes, there will be a Dolphin Classic update before the Dolphin U final release. Quite a bit of work has already been done and a few more ideas, as well as critical issues are on the table.

It's a lot of work for just two coders... don't you think?
Andrew Boon
It is. It would be a lot less work if there were two coders in the first place, though.
houstonlively
Let me put this in perspective. In the last 14 months, you've closed about 30 tickets on the 7.1.5 milestone. There's about 80 tickets left. If you continue at that same rate, it will take another THREE YEARS to tend to all those issues. I don't know how you're going to do it with only two coders working on things, but you need to find a way.
Andrew Boon
We'll find a way. In long term two coders may actually produce a better result, without creating a whole new bunch of issues. The two we've got are the best there is.

I don't see why Boonex can not offer a 30% on Premium membership. The discount for licenses will far exceed the discount on a Premium membership. It would have been nice to at least answer our request.
geek_girl
LOL, you mean next year? I have been looking at a premium membership just to sell in the market. I am very hesitant to pay $149.00 just to sell in the market when I keep hearing how modules are not selling. In fact, just recently a developer took down a module because it was not selling. I might just forget about selling anything in the market.
Andrew Boon
But you are a Premium member already. ;). We really do appreciate people's taking time to get involved in Boonex discussions, follow news and share opinion.

HA... The only products I'd ever post are free ones, but I'd have to pay $149 to do so. I paid that fee once... then it expired after a year. I don't so much object to the $149... it's paying that fee so I can give something away to some of these brain-dead numnuts around here that I can't stand the thought of. Oh well...'t hell with 'em
Andrew Boon
Premium membership is permanent now. One-time fee. We will also think of how we can accommodate Providers posting free products. One idea was to reimburse membership fee as soon as certain amount of positive feedback is reached. This membership is not a great money-maker for us, it's more of a way to pre-select Provider-wannabies to minimise spam.

[you're Premium too, btw]

I'm still here after 8 years, patiently waiting for some tickets to be solved :-)
