Who is your favorite & least favorite host?

With Boonex posting Blogs of recent mentioning different hosts and all the hoopla going on over who is a good host and who is a bad host, why don't we make up a list of who we like and who we don't like as a hosting company?  This could be something that the newbies can reference and the bias of an affiliate system is removed from it, since this isn't by Boonex.  Just honest feedback relating to your personal experience with a hosting company, this way we stay inside the rules of discussion that Boonex has put out there.

The Good Ones in My Book:

#1  Host For Web:  Yes, they host my stuff and I find them to provide really good support, quick turn time on tickets, professional management of my servers and a reasonable price.  They are not the cheapest out there, but they do give you what you pay for and in the end the time I save with them managing the servers makes it worth the price I pay.

#2  Terabyte-Hosting Solutions:  We all know I've had my run ins with THS, but in the end I have to admit (begrudgingly) that overall they provide a good product that meets the needs of alot of dolphin site owners.  Turn time in my experience (don't jump me here DD) is not as quick as HFW but for the most part, it is acceptable.  the prices are inline with the industry and what a dolphin site host should be charging.

My Bad Hosts:

#1:  Arvixe:  In my personal experience and opinion Arvixe advertises a product that can not and will not deliever what is expected.  By offering unlimited bandwidth & disc space and then limiting in an extremely vague manner issues such as CPU usage and suspending accounts makes them the worst Dolphin host out there.  There may be worse ones, but I don't have experience with them myself.

#2:  Godaddy:  Okay, they provide a service but in the end, their servers are not configured to run Dolphin and it takes a ton of work to get even a base dolphin to run, forget running the Ray Widgets on their servers in my opinion.

My least favorite web hosting provider is Cirtex Hosting.

During my time with them, the support was sub-par and their servers were always under-fire. When I finally had enough with them, I moved off to another web hosting company, but leaving them was a hassle in itself. The support team seemed clingy on trying to keep me, I only managed to cancel my web hosting package when I agreed to let them manage my domain name. A mistake, since they later decided to not issue me an invoice, and not allow see more me to pay for the renewal. They also would not answer any of my support requests.

My favorite web hosting provider is tied with MM Hosting and Media Temple.

I'll write about them some other time. The Cirtex Hosting write-up has left me drained.

I use top-host.co.uk he is really good spent the last 2 days fixing the site and has the site working to a certain degree

I use already for 4 years now a local hosting compagny, where I hire dedicated hosting from. IC-Hosting (NL) Our server can host others to. Good and fast service. I have nothing to complain about.
I can co domain register to.
Favorite Host: ServerBeach (Peer1). Dedicated hosting

Least Favorite 1and1 Internet Hosting. (while relatively good for reliability, it's like pulling teeth to get anything done through support and you have to jump through hoops to make any changes).

I have been with Arvixe for a while now. I would say that 99% of the time they are fantastic. Issues will come up with every host company you use as none of them are perfect.

I am on their business plan and for Dolphn I would not suggest going for anything less than that.

They have a 24/7 support line. So when you have an issue you get to talk to a real person and usually have your problem sorted out immediately, as opposed to being at the mercy of an online ticket system.

Also, if you see more call them using Skype the number is free from anywhere in the world saving you quite a bit in phone charges.

Their prices are also excellent and the money you save on phonecalls can go towards getting their business plan package.

Of course, it all depends on your own personal experience but mine has been great so far. I would highly recommend their business pack.

I think this blog should be made a sticky myself, there has been so much confusion with who is good and who is bad, that i myself would rather trust what members have to say than any of the advertising ....

So.
Good Host has to be Joombyte.com for its up time and how quick they get back to you if you have an issue or something.

Bad host (speaking dolphin only) has got to me Hostgator, they say they run dolphin on their cheaper shared, but in reality they simply dont.

Well I have a virtual dedicated server on Godaddy and it was actually pretty easy to get Dolphin running. All I had to do was edit install java and edit php.ini for larger uploads then install RMS (Ray Media Server) and its pretty solid.

Right now I have websites spread out over 3 or 4 hosts and my virtual dedicated servers on Godaddy have the most uptime and the least issues.

Good:
Currently I am with Joombyte and purchased their Dolphin200 package. I would have to say it has been nothing but a pleasure since I have moved over to them. My site is fast and response time for any issues is extremely quick.

Bad(Kinda):
I was previously with Cirtex and had some issue with alot of my mods after they decided to install suPhP on the server I was on. After several emails back and forth with them, they said they would not allow me to have the needed configurations in my .htaccess see more file for the mods to work. So I went somewhere else that would. This was back in my 6.1.4 (pre-D7). Not bashing them, just needed more permission they wouldn't allow.

For me. The best

so far has been terabyte-hosting. Both shared and dedicated.

The worst.

Godaddy. At least the shared. I have not worked with a VMS from godaddy, so i cannot comment. But the shared hosting is not very good at all.

I'm currently with Arvixe. I had an issue with a CPU usage spike and got suspended within a few days. My site was just installed with me being the only member. Stange how I could spike with no users.

Switched to HostForWeb and it was horrible. Account creating was basically nothing. No index or any type of a landing page. Dropped right into folder lever. Never saw a host do that. A clean install of Dolphin would not work. Took several support tickets to get things working. Each time see more I questioned why Dolphin wouldn't work when I purchased Dolphin hosting, my question was ignored and never got an answer. Fearing more problems I gave up and left. Didn't like their "cartoony" themed cPanel either.

Went back to Arvixe, everything works out of the box. Have had no problems since, but I do notice the site is getting slower since the server is filling up. Seems they like to over crowd them with 300-500 sites. 93 sites on the server when I signed up, now 280 and climbing. So i'm on the fence with Arvixe, but whatever I try to run there works, so that's keeping me there for now.

IX Webhosting was my host for several years before Dolphin. Support was awesome and fast. Servers were slow as molasses but they worked. Dolphin ran nicely there, but they have their own control panel and do things where we could not get cron jobs to work. Speed and crons were my only reasons to leave. Other than that, good experiences with them.

For me part of it is the datacenter. I do prefer certain datacenters to begin with, but that is me. I have had excellent luck with softlayer by far. I also prefer as I have mentioned before dual xeon or 8 core minimums. A host that limits accounts or keeps a tight handle on them. One that does not pack them in there like most do. 100 accounts on one server will blow away one with 500, or one that allows unlimited addons and some joe blow ads tons of them.

Only a few that I know of that really see more limits them.

Secondly last time I checked host for web and many other hosts tend to set things up with apache module dso. This is fast and boonex seems to like this or follow this. It's alright if the server is all yours but still has a number of security issues. Suphp or a cgi/fast-cgi setup will be much more secure. If you are talking vps or dedicated then obviously you can make the change. But for shared hosting find one that has minimum suphp.

I have been with or have helped others with so many hosts over 10+ years. It all depends on how serious you are and how much you really want to promote your site and drive traffic to it. A little site with little traffic will do fine with most cheap hosts. A serious site with heavy promotion and heavy traffic will demand much more eventually. Only a few of the cheapies will be able to handle it if thats the case. But only a very small percent get up into that category. Rms is iffy in my opinion too. Unless you have a very active site you aren't going to use it that much. It is just pushed as a necessidy which for most sites is rarely used, and/or very little.

Only 1 shared host that I have had good luck with and they are not on the boonex recommended list.

I've only had good experiences with knownhost.com VPSes over the last four years. You get what you pay for, and in general stuff works (with a decent 99.995% average uptime).

In general, "unlimited" offers, along with bucket hosts who cram their servers and have overselling as a central part of their business model, are best kept at a safe distance. Seen enough of those, fortunately went through the cheapo hop only a couple of times myself back in the days.
As it turns out, I just became my favorite host. I had a nice Dell Poweredge 1800 Server given to me along with several nice workstations from a company that went out of business and didn't want to be bothered with selling them or throwing them away. After setting up a static IP with my ISP, I just installed Centos 5 and Virtualmin on the server and then set up the workstations to handle a lot of the basic ftp and mail stuff. After setting up everything the way I wanted it, I just started playing see more with software. Dolphin 6 & 7 installed fine after I added a few packages and made the required changes to php as required. I have to say that from my experiences setting this up, there is absolutely no reason that any host shouldn't be able to set up a server to handle Dolphins ' requirements within about 5 minutes. Of course I've been able to make any changes I deemed necessary with my existing host on my dedicated server anyway but they already had everything necessary installed and set up out of the box to run Dolphin and RMS when I first began hosting with them. The server I'm playing with isn't anything special or powerful, it's a basic Xeon dual-core system with a Gig of memory and two small sata drives in an array. Next I plan on setting it up with xen virtualization just to play around with that.

Mr Datery, Shut up goof.

While I am only a couple of weeks into the setup, I am using Arvixe and I have to say that they have been really great to date. Some of their support staff seem to be a little more knowledgeable and helpful but that is probably going to be true wherever you go. Right now I do not have the money for a dedicated server but we have everything being set up to eventually set up our own servers as someone else here mentioned. Ultimately, that is going to be my end-all solution but when one is just beginning, see more one does the best that they can with what they have and so far, Arvixe has been pretty impressive. As for their package programs and their pricing, I would have to say that the business plan is probably going to be the minimal option for a Dolphin site set up in my humble opinion.
